Because You Asked, The Rink Project, July 17, 2024

Many of you have inquired about how the Rink Project is progressing. The Franconia Selectboard has asked that I share the following information with you.

“After careful consideration, and after reviewing the findings of the 10-member Rink Proposal Feasibility Committee, the Selectboard determined at our Meeting on Monday, July 8th, that due to concerns with the proposed location and potential tax impact to Franconia taxpayers, we cannot support pursuing this project at the current proposed location.

The Selectboard very much appreciates and recognizes the important goals of this project and the potential positive impact it could have on this community. We, and the feasibility group, agree that a refrigerated and roofed skating rink would be a welcome addition to the area as a winter activity and we recommend that the established non-profit organization look to acquire land and operate this business themselves or find a partner who may be willing to do so. “ -The Franconia Selectboard
